Project Description
APTN Languages
Most of us never think about the importance of language because no one has ever tried to take ours away. But during colonization, Indigenous Peoples were forbidden to speak their native tongues – an attempt to erase the languages and stop the passing down of the words that carry culture, history, and spirit. For First Nations, Inuit, Métis Peoples, language is the heartbeat of culture. It carries stories, values, and customs from one generation to the next.
Our “Symphony of Language” campaign honoured the voices once silenced, now rising together, reminding us that every language is a note in a harmony that cannot, and will not, be silenced. The perfect way to raise awareness of, and invite Indigenous Peoples to, APTN’s new Language Channel.
